Care information

Proper care and maintenance of your wood cutting board are essential to ensure its longevity and hygiene. Here are some care instructions to keep your wood cutting board in top condition:

  1. Hand Wash Only: Always wash your wood cutting board by hand using hot, soapy water. Avoid submerging it for extended periods, and never put it in the dishwasher, as the high water temperatures and harsh detergents can cause warping and cracking.
  2. Dry Thoroughly: After washing, wipe your cutting board dry with a clean towel or allow it to air dry upright to prevent moisture from being trapped in the wood. Moisture can cause the board to swell or warp.
  3. Sanitize: To eliminate bacteria and odors, periodically sanitize your cutting board. You can do this by using a solution of one part vinegar to five parts water. Apply the solution, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse and dry the board.
  4. Remove Stains: If your cutting board develops stains from fruits, vegetables, or other ingredients, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply this paste to the stained area, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with a brush or sponge and rinse clean.
  5. Regular Oil Treatment: Wood cutting boards benefit from regular oiling to maintain their finish and prevent the wood from becoming dry or brittle. Use food-grade mineral oil and our Board Conditioner to coat the board's surface. Apply a generous amount, allow it to soak in for several hours or overnight, and wipe off any excess. Reapply oil every few weeks or as needed.
  6. Store Upright: When not in use, store your cutting board in an upright position. This allows air to circulate around it and helps prevent warping.
  7. Use Separate Boards: To prevent cross-contamination, use separate cutting boards for different food types, such as one for meats and another for fruits and vegetables.
  8. Avoid High Heat: Don't expose your cutting board to extreme heat, such as placing hot pots or pans directly on it. Excessive heat can cause cracks or burns.
